Mount Ayres is a striking, 2500 m high mountain in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It rises 10 miles south of the western end of the Finger Ridges in the Cook Mountains .
The mountain was first climbed in December 1957 by a team on the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958), which primarily explored the Darwin Glacier on this research trip. It is named after the New Zealand climber Harry Herbert Ayres (1912–1987), who was part of this team.
