The Tioga Lake is a small lake on Signy Iceland in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is north-northeast of Port Jebsen and northwest of Tioga Hill .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1981 based on the name of the hill of the same name. Its namesake is the Norwegian factory ship Tioga , built in 1890 , which operated for whaling in the waters around the southern Orkney Islands between 1911 and 1912 and which sank in a storm near Port Jebsen on February 4, 1913 .
