In Ethiopia situated Blue Nile Falls of the Blue Nile (also Tis Issat Falls called Amharic ጥስ እሳት ) are the second largest waterfalls in Africa.
geography
About 30 kilometers south of Bahir Dar on Lake Tana in Ethiopia is the village of Tis Issat ( Amharic 'water that smokes') on the Abbai River, which forms the upper reaches of the Blue Nile. Here the richer in water of the two major source rivers of the Nile plunges 42 meters into the depth. With a width of over 400 meters during the rainy season, it is the second largest waterfall in Africa. It consists of four main streams. The Tisissat Falls are considered to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Ethiopia.
Since the second Tis Abay power plant was commissioned in 2001 and the Tana Beles power plant in 2010, it has only received 10% of the previous amount of water in the dry season and a significantly reduced volume even in the rainy season.
Stone bridge
Approx. The oldest stone bridge in Ethiopia, dating from 1626, is located 1100 m downstream. Its main arch crosses the Abbai, which runs in a deep crevice during the dry season. In the rainy season the river rose so much that the water also ran through the other five arches.
