The Titan motor tug is a tug that performed its service with interruptions from 1910 to 1982 and can now be seen in the Lübeck Museum Harbor.

history

In 1910 the German steam shipping company "Hansa" (DDG "Hansa") had the steam tug DDG Hansa II built at the Hamburg Wichhorst shipyard . The new building was the first real port tug of the DDG "Hansa" and was entered in the shipping register in Bremen .

In 1936 the tractor was sold and equipped with a 3-cylinder diesel engine. The steam tug DDG Hansa II thus became a motor tug , which was brought to Lübeck in 1937 under its new name "Titan" . In 1942 the tug was taken out of service due to an engine failure and reactivated after the war. Until 1982 the tug Titan did its job in Lübeck, at the water and shipping office . After a sale to a Lübeck company, the Museumshafen zu Lübeck eV finally acquired the tug in 1988. Since then, the members of the association have taken care of the maintenance and operation of the old ship.

The Hanseatic City of Lübeck classified the tug Titan on August 31, 2010 in the area of archeology and monument preservation as a cultural monument within the meaning of Section 1 Paragraph 2 of the Monument Protection Act.
