Titus van Rijn (born September 22, 1641 in Amsterdam , † beginning of September 1668 there ) was the only one of the four children of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn and Saskia van Uylenburgh to survive childhood. Titus appears several times as a model in Rembrandt's pictures and studies.

Before Rembrandt's bankruptcy in 1656, the latter transferred ownership of his house to Titus. Together with his stepmother Hendrickje Stoffels, he started an art trade specializing in Rembrandt's works. At the insistence of his father, Titus had a will written when he was 15, in which he designated Rembrandt as the sole heir.

In 1668 Titus married Magdalena van Loo (1641–1669). Her father Jan, a silversmith, was a brother of his uncle Gerrit van Loo, a lawyer in the municipality of Het Bildt . They lived in a house on the Singel with his mother-in-law. From this marriage a child was born: Titia (1669–1715).

Titus van Rijn died of the plague at the beginning of September 1668 at the age of 27. He was buried in the Westerkerk . His wife and mother-in-law died a year later.

A picture of Titus ( Titus at the desk , 1655) adorns the cover of the bestseller Education. An essay by Hartmut von Hentig .
