To the Power of Three is the first and so far only studio album by the progressive rock group Three , released in 1988.
History of origin
After the end of Emerson, Lake & Powell , Carl Palmer and Keith Emerson formed the band Three together with singer, bassist and guitarist Robert Berry . With a demo the band managed to get signed to Geffen Records . With Talkin 'Bout , Runaway and You Do or You Don't , Berry wrote three of the eight songs. Talkin 'Bout was a holdover from Berry's previous band GTR . Emerson contributed On My Way Home , which is dedicated to his late companion Tony Stratton-Smith. The musicians composed Lover to Lover and the multi-part Desde la Vida together . Songwriter Sue Shifrin wrote the song Chains . Additionally is The-Byrds - Cover Eight Miles High included on the album. The album was recorded within three months at the London studios E-Zee Studios and West Side Studios, London.

success
The album peaked at # 97 on the US Billboard 200 and the single Talkin 'Bout peaked at # 9 on the US mainstream rock track chart. The album flopped not only for commercial reasons. Artistically, the album was not received very well either. Instead of sophisticated progressive rock , as one was used to from Emerson and Lake, Three leaned more towards mainstream and adult oriented rock . Keith Emerson called the album "the most commercial product [he] was ever involved in" years later. The Musikexpress called the album a "perfect example of when modern keyboard technology falls into the wrong hands."
