Tobias Debiel

Tobias Debiel (* 1963 ) is a German political scientist and has held the Chair of International Relations and Development Policy at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Duisburg since April 2006 . Since May 2006 he has also been Director of the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), where he previously held the position of Scientific Director. From February 2003 to July 2004 Debiel was head of the research group “Governance and Conflict” at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn , where he also held the substitute professorship “Political and Cultural Change” for two semesters.

His work focuses on state failure and world governance; Structures of violence and development opportunities in the age of globalization ; UN peace operations in the context of global governance ; State building and violent conflicts; Structural Stability and Human Security in Sub-Saharan Africa ; Promoting good governance under conditions of state failure; State building in post-war societies
