Institute for Development and Peace

The Institute for Development and Peace (INEF) was founded in 1990 as a research facility of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen in cooperation with the Development and Peace Foundation (SEF). It is located on the Duisburg campus.

From 1990 to May 2006 Franz Nuscheler was director of the Institute for Development and Peace. Since May 2006 the institute has been headed by Tobias Debiel .

Research program

The INEF is the only research institute in Germany to conduct research at the interface between development and peace.

The current research areas are divided into:

  • Global governance and human security
  • Violent Conflicts and Peace Strategies
  • Development and human rights

Since the 2006/2007 winter semester, the INEF has been offering the master's degree in "International Relations and Development Policy" in cooperation with the Institute for Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The course is intended to combine training in the field of international relations with the sub-field of development policy .

Publications

In addition to its own publication series INEF-Report , INEF Policy Brief and the Human Rights Yearbook , the institute publishes the peace report annually together with the research institutes BICC , FEST , PRIF and IFSH . In cooperation with the Development and Peace Foundation (SEF), the series EINE Welt , Policy Papers and the newsletter SEF / INEF News are also published .
