Development and Peace Foundation

The Development and Peace Foundation (SEF) (English Development and Peace Foundation ) is an incorporated foundation under civil law, headquartered in Bonn .

The foundation is a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .

Founding history

It was founded in 1986 on an initiative by Willy Brandt . As the former chairman of the North-South Commission , which had formulated the vision for a partnership between North and South in its final report in 1980, he wanted an independent forum in the Federal Republic for ideas and information about global interrelationships and for constructive connection between the topics East-West and North-South. The founding circle of the SEF included: Willy Brandt himself, Johannes Rau , Kurt Biedenkopf , Ralf Dahrendorf , Friedhelm Farthmann , Uwe Holtz , Klaus Dieter Leister , Dieter Senghaas andCarola Stern .

purpose

The purpose is to promote international understanding, international cooperation and development as well as awareness of global interrelationships. The guiding principle for all SEF activities is " Global Governance ". The three program areas “New Forms of World Government Put to the Test”, “World in Transition - Future Issues in Development Policy” and “Human Security and International Responsibility in the Age of Climate Change” set the content framework for the project work.

The SEF is supported by the four federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia (with a share of 10 million German marks in the foundation's assets), Brandenburg (2 million DM), Berlin (1 million DM), Saxony (0.1 million DM).

Publications

One of the best-known publications is the standard work "Global Trends", which documents facts, trends and connections about important developments in global society. It appears every two to three years in close cooperation with the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF).
