Uwe Holtz (born March 19, 1944 in Graudenz ) is a German political scientist and former politician ( SPD ).

Life

After graduating from high school in Langenberg (Rhineland) in 1963 , Holtz studied Romance studies and history at the University of Cologne . In 1967 he passed the state examination and obtained his doctorate in 1969. phil. with the theme: "The Limping Devil by Vélez de Guevara and Lesage: A literary and socially critical study". From 1969 to 1972 he was a research assistant for modern history at the University of Kiel and from 1972 to 1994 a member of the SPD Bundestag . In 1972 and 1976 he won the Düsseldorf-Mettmann II constituency and in 1980 the Mettmann I constituency directly. In 1983, 1987 and 1990 he entered the Bundestag via the state list of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1974 to 1994 he headed the Bundestag Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development. From 1973 to 1995 he was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe , where he was also President of the Economic and Development Committee. Since 2002 he has been Honorary President of the European Association of Former Members of Parliament.

Holtz has been a freelance development consultant since 1995 and has been an honorary professor for political science at the later Institute for Political Science and Sociology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn since 1987 “with a teaching and research focus on democracy, human rights and sustainable development; Development Policy, International Relations and Europe; historical topics.
