Jochen Hippler (born May 13, 1955 in Duisburg ) is a German political scientist and peace researcher. Since May 2019 he has been Country Director of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Islamabad ( Pakistan ).

Life

He received his diploma in social sciences in 1980 and a doctorate in political science in 1986. In 2007 he completed his habilitation in political science with a focus on international relations . At times he was also a research assistant in the German Bundestag (1985–1990, 1998–1999). From 1993 to 1995 he was director of the Transnational Institute (TNI) in Amsterdam . From 2000 to April 2019 he worked at the University of Duisburg-Essen , initially as a research assistant at the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), then as a substitute professor for international and comparative politics .

Focus

His main thematic work focuses on the connection between political violence , governance and political identities, unilateralism and multilateralism in international relations . He also has a regional focus on the Near and Middle East , as well as Afghanistan and Pakistan .
