Bonn International Center for Conversion

The Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC) GmbH is a company based in Bonn .

It is committed to promoting peace and development and, in addition to the Institute for Development and Peace , the research center of the Evangelical Study Community e. V., the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg ( IFSH ) and the Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research (HFSK) are among the five leading German peace research institutes.

The BICC was founded in 1994 on the initiative of the then NRW Prime Minister Johannes Rau and Kofi Annan with the support of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The starting point was an international conversion conference in Dortmund in 1992.

Research program

The BICC conducts application-oriented research, advice and capacity-building in topics such as small arms control , demobilization and reintegration, but also in the area of migration and diaspora as well as natural resources ( fatal transactions ). The institute is also dedicated to disarmament issues and the control of arms exports. All of this should help improve human security .

The BICC works closely with non-governmental organizations as well as public organizations; such as the Center for Development Research , the Center for European Integration Research , the German Development Institute , the German Development Service and International Training and Development , Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces), UNIDIR , UNDDA , NUPI , United Nations University ( UNU ), the Government of Canada, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute ( SIPRI ) and the Oslo Peace Research Institute .

Scientific director has been Conrad Schetter , Professor of Peace and Conflict Research, since March 12, 2013 .

The BICC publishes an annual report, publishes current research results, is co-editor of the annual peace report and organizes conferences and exhibitions.
