Conrad Schetter

Conrad Justus Schetter (born July 14, 1966 in Bonn ) is a German peace and conflict researcher with a regional focus on Asia.

Schetter studied geography, history, education, Persian and Indonesian from 1988 to 1995. In 1995 he passed the state examination (to become a teacher). He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Geography at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 2001 he was at Eckart Ehlers at the Faculty with a thesis on ethnicity and ethnic conflicts in Afghanistan to Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1999 to 2013 he worked at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) in Bonn: From 1999 to 2001 he was Junior Research Fellow, from 2001 to 2004 Research Fellow, from 2005 to 2012 Senior Research Fellow and 2012/13 Acting Director of the department “ Political and Cultural Change ". In 2009, he completed his habilitation at ZEF on the topic of patterns of order in violent conflicts. The intervention in Afghanistan between ethnicity, warlordship and Taliban .

Since 2013 he has been Director for Research at the Bonn International Center for Conversion . Associated with this is a teaching position as a professorship for peace and conflict research at the Institute for Political Science and Sociology in Bonn. He is also a member of the Bonn Asia Center. His main research interests include a. Security policy and civil-military cooperation , especially peace and conflict research, as well as the regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia.

Schetter is also u. a. Member of the competence network Crossroads Asia , board member of the Afghanistan working group , member of the executive committee of Welthungerhilfe , 1st chairman of the working group for peace and conflict research , member of the board of trustees of the Bonn International Democracy Prize and the Center for International Security and Governance, and member of the advisory board of the German Peace Research Foundation . He is also co-editor of the magazine International Asia Forum .
