Tobias Hartleb

Tobias Hartleb is a Dresden composer . He set poems by Afro-American poets such as Langston Hughes to music for the 1984 album Ströme - Negerlyrik from two continents on the GDR record label Litera . The pieces were interpreted by Wolfgang Dehler and Ruth Hoffmann .

Karlheinz Drechsel assesses Hartleb's work as "multi-layered, demanding compositions / scores whose basic gesture was based on lines of reference derived from the jazz idiom to blues, gospel and contemporary pop music".
