Daughter of the night

Daughter of the night (orig. Night's Daughter ) is a 1985 fantasy novel by the American writer Marion Zimmer Bradley . It is a novel form of the opera “ The Magic Flute ” by Emanuel Schikaneder and the Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . She sticks to the essentials of the opera and invented a world of fables in it.

The young Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night, is kidnapped from the realm of the night in the name of King Sarastro.

One night, the young Prince Tamino goes hunting and is attacked by a dragon. Tamino fights him, but he threatens to succumb. But three women kill the dragon, but Tamino does not see it, because he passes out from exhaustion.

When he wakes up, he meets a bird man named Papageno who brags about killing the dragon. But then the three women appear and punish Papageno for his bragging rights and explain to Tamino that they killed the dragon. Tamino soon meets the Queen of the Night, who orders him to free her daughter from the clutches of Sarastro and to kill him. She shows him a portrait of Pamina and he falls in love with her on the spot. The Queen of the Night gives him a magic flute that will be useful on his journey. At Tamino's request, Papageno is allowed to accompany him, for which he gets a few bells.

With Papageno as a companion, Tamino makes his way to Sarastro to free Pamina.
