Hiroshi Toda
Hiroshi Toda ( Japanese 戸 田 宏 , Toda Hiroshi ; * 1928 in Japan ) is a Japanese mathematician who deals with topology .
Toda received his PhD from Osaka University in 1956 . He was then a professor in Kyoto . In 1957 he was awarded the Asahi Prize . From 1959 to 1961 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton .
Toda is known for his work on calculating the homotopy groups of spheres . The technique of the "Toda bracket" used there is named after him.
He should not be confused with the physicist Morikazu Toda (1917–2010), who discovered the Toda lattice.
