The Tokarew Island ( Russian Остров Токарева Ostrow Tokarewa ) is a small island off the coast of the East Antarctic Queen Marie Land . In the group of Haswell Islands it lies 160 m west of Gorew Island .
The team from the west base of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson discovered and mapped them. Soviet scientists carried out a new mapping in 1956 and named it after the biologist Alexei K. Tokarew (1915–1957), who had died on the return journey of the scientists from Antarctica.
