The Toledo Tornadoes were an American football team from Toledo , Ohio .

history

The Toledo Tornadoes were founded in the late 1950s and initially played in the American Football Conference , a league in the Upper Midwest. First head coach was Bob Snyder , a former NFL poker players. The first president was Irv Smilo appointed. In 1962 they moved to the United Football League , a minor league in the northeastern United States. 1962 was the best season for the Tornadoes, as they made it into the Championship Game with a score of 10-3, but lost to the Wheeling Ironmen . After the dissolution of the UFL after the 1964 season, the board of directors of the Tornadoes decided in February 1965 to dissolve the team due to debts of $ 53,111 .
