Tolldreiste stories (also delightful stories , maddening stories ; French: Les cent contes drôlatiques , Les contes drôlatiques ) is a collection of stories by Honoré de Balzac . The short stories were published in 1832, 1833 and 1837. In 1855 an edition illustrated by Gustave Doré appeared .

The plan to write a new decameron resulted in three by ten entertaining stories about high French society in the late Middle Ages. Balzac depicts the high nobility in all their love for life, affirming this life, and in brilliant language reveals scandalous details about alleged connections that shouldn't have been according to the professional statutes.

The story The Succubus (French: Le Succube ) is particularly famous , in which the city of Tours is upset by the exotic beauty of the Moriskin Zulma. Balzac underpins the superficially light story with process maps from the 13th century. So behind the easy reading and the rotten stories there is an accusation of the pseudo-morality and the hunger for power of the frivolous authorities.

The story The beautiful Imperia (French: La belle Impéria ) takes place at the time of the Council of Constance and was set to music by Franco Alfano in 1927 as the opera Madonna Imperia . Lovis Corinth , who in 1925 already created a collection of eleven lithographs for the work Les contes drôlatiques , also dedicated a painting to her in 1925, which he called The Beautiful Woman Imperia .
