Tom Brown (soccer player, 1909)

Thomas Edward "Tom" Brown (born May 6, 1909 in South Shields , † 1986 ) was an English football player . The goalkeeper , active as an amateur , played two games for English club South Shields in December 1929 .

When South Shields FC, who played in the Football League Third Division North , had a need for the goalkeeper position around Christmas 1929, the club signed the amateur footballer Brown, who was stationed at the RAF base Wittering . He represented regular goalkeeper Tony Carr on December 25 and 26, but conceded a total of seven goals in the two subsequent defeats against Hartlepools United . On December 28th, Carr was back in goal against Chesterfield FC . In the following years he still played in amateur football at Throckley Welfare and Newbiggin West End .
