Christiansen, who started for the Aarvoll IL , competed in several competitions in the 1979/80 World Cup season . It was his only competitions on an international level. His first jump he completed on February 9, 1980 at the French Saint-Nizier . When jumping from the large hill, he took 6th place. He won the second competition the following day and was on the podium for the first and only time in his career. In the following two World Cup competitions in the Swiss towns of St. Moritz and Gstaad , he was only able to achieve 13th and 14th place respectively. At the end of the season Christiansen was in 27th place in the overall World Cup with 40 points.
