Tom Murray

Tom Murray (born September 8, 1874 in Stonefort , Illinois , † August 27, 1935 in Hollywood , California ) was an American actor.

life and career

Tom Murray was born in a small town in the US state of Illinois. He made his first silent film in Hollywood in 1916 when he was 42 years old. By 1931, the beefy character actor was to make around 19 films, mostly starring as a sinister villain in supporting roles. Murray had his best-known roles in two comedies with Charlie Chaplin : In The Pilgrim (1923) he played the stubborn sheriff of a small town and in Chaplin's classic Gold Rush (1925) he played the cunning prospector and felon Black Larsen. He was with Harry Langdon in 1926 in Tramp, Tramp, Trampseen alongside another star comedian. His only sound film was the B-Western White Renegade , after which he retired from the film business.

Tom Murray died of a heart attack in 1935 at the age of 60. He was married to the actress Louise Carver (1869-1956).
