Tom Pettitt
Thomas "Tom" Pettitt (born December 19, 1859 in Beckenham , Greater London , Great Britain , † October 17, 1946 in Newport , Rhode Island , United States ) was a British jeu-de-paume player.
biography
Pettitt emigrated at the age of seventeen to Boston and taught in " Boston Tennis & Racquet Club " the Jeu de Paume , the predecessor of the modern sport of tennis . In 1885 he challenged George Lambert, won the title and defended it in 1890. In 1929 he stopped his coaching and teaching activities and died in 1946. 1982 was posthumously inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
