Tom Ripley

Tom Ripley (actually Thomas Ripley ) is a fictional character created by Patricia Highsmith . In 1955 she published her detective novel The Talented Mr. Ripley ( The Talented Mr. Ripley ) about the petty criminal Tom Ripley, who gets into conflict on a trip to Italy and becomes a murderer. In 1958 the planned sequel The Alarming Return of Mr Ripley was not realized, later appeared Ripley Under Ground (1970), Ripley's Game (1974), The Boy Who Followed Ripley (1980) and Ripley Under Water (1991).

The material was filmed several times. After The Talented Mr. Ripley appeared in 1960, Only the Sun Witnessed , directed by René Clément, starring Alain Delon as Tom Ripley and in 1999, The Talented Mr. Ripley by Anthony Minghella with Matt Damon in the lead role. After Ripley's Game emerged in 1977 The American Friend by Wim Wenders with Dennis Hopper and 2002 Ripley's Game by Liliana Cavani with John Malkovich . In 2005, director Roger Spottiswoode filmed Ripley Under Ground with Barry Pepper .
