Tom Stock

Tom Stock is a retired American swimmer .

The back and position swimmer stick swam 10 world records .

After almost two months of performance training at Indiana University under coach James Counsilman , he was the first person to swim the 200 yard back in under 2 minutes. For 4 years, from 1960 to 1964, he held the world record over 200 m back and was unbeatable in this discipline. Its heyday began right after the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome and ended shortly before the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo . In 1960 he did not get into the US Olympic team because he was only third best. In 1964 he was unable to take part in the Olympic Games because of a long illness .

In 1989 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame .
