Tom and the Lion Number is an American animated short film directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera from 1950.

action

Tom is sitting in the living room listening to the radio. When he hears noises from the kitchen, he goes to look. He notices that Jerry is stealing the food from the refrigerator with a self-made assembly line and tries to stop the mouse. However, this attempt is unsuccessful for Tom, so he returns to the radio in frustration. The radio broadcast was paused to give an urgent warning: "An aggressive lion has just escaped from the circus. We repeat - an aggressive lion has just escaped from the circus! We recommend that you close all doors and windows immediately".

Tom immediately closes all windows and doors, takes a rifle and prepares to shoot the lion. But the lion still manages to get into the cellar of the house, so inconspicuously that Tom doesn't notice anything. The lion asks Jerry to hide him from the humans and send him back to Africa, but first of all to feed him some. Jerry accepts the lion's request. At first he sneaks to the refrigerator, unnoticed by Tom, and steals it. On his return to the lion, however, he is caught by Tom.

He threatens Jerry with the gun, takes the steak from him and stops him by standing with one paw on Jerry's tail. Tom overlooks the lion, who is hiding behind a curtain. He secretly grabs the steak from Tom's hand. When the cat notices that the steak is gone, all he hears is a crunch. Tom points the rifle in the direction the sound is coming from. Jerry turns this rifle upside down. Tom shoots up in a panic, Jerry pretends Tom would hit him with the shot. Tom brings the first aid kit to help Jerry. Unharmed Jerry uses the lion to hit Tom. Tom flies into the fireplace, breaking through the wall. A slot machine is hidden in the fireplace. This slot machine shows "Won" and releases the tom and the broken bricks.

When Tom ponders what is going on in the house, the lion hides in the umbrella. Tom opens this umbrella and is crushed by the lion. Confused Tom sees a door ajar with a key on the outside. He walks into the room, locks the door from the outside and throws the key away. Tom is beaten up in the room. He's locked in from the outside so he'll have to break the door to break free. Tom has no idea that the lion is behind this violence, he thinks that Jerry beats him so brutally and runs away from the house in a panic, breaking through the wall. Jerry brings the lion to the ship going to South Africa.
