The tomcat Tomba was born in 1988 in the Schwarenbach mountain inn in the Bernese Alps . He gained fame through high mountain tours on the Rinderhorn and the Balmhorn , which he undertook from the age of 10 months. He followed his obviously chosen partner and didn't want to be carried around, but rather to rest on a piece of equipment instead of the ice. Particularly noteworthy is an incident on the occasion of which his behavior saved a rope team from an avalanche from the Sagigrat. He warned another group of a dangerous snowdrift. Media from Europe, America, South Africa and Japan reported on the hangover. The cat was euthanized in 1993 because of feline leukemia .
