Tombe du Capitaine
The Tombe du Capitaine ( German "Captain's Grave" ; also called Dolmen la Tombe du Capitaine ) is a small dolmen . It is located northwest of Villedieu , near St-Flour in the Cantal department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
In a field west of the hamlet of Bouzentes, a few kilometers southwest of St. Flour and the road D 116, is this simple dolmen ( French dolmen simple ).
The only capstone, with small bowls ( French cupules ) and engraved lines, lies in the center of the field, on two side stones in a pile of loose stones, which are probably the remains of his cairn . The dolmen is made up of large basalt blocks brought here from over a kilometer away.
During excavations in the 19th century, a polished ax was found in addition to the usual pottery shards, flint stones and bones .
