Thomas "Tommy" Amphlett (born September 14, 1988 in Stoke-on-Trent ) is an Australian football player . The offensive player played 27 games for Perth Glory in the A-League between 2009 and 2012 .

Career

Amphlett played for ECU Joondalup in his youth and won the 2004 U-18 Championship in Western Australia with the club , Amphlett had contributed to this success with nine goals this season. In 2005, he finished second behind his teammate Phil Arnold in the election for West Australian Youth Player of the Year . In 2006 he moved up to the adult division and occasionally came to appearances for the first team, but mostly he was active for the reserve team, whose top scorer he was in 2006. In the 2007 season he established himself in the first team of Joondalup, which is in the top Western Australian divisionstarted. In mid-2008 he was appointed to the West Australian national team for the first time for a friendly against a U-23 provincial selection from East Java (final score 0: 2). In 2009, his father, who had previously served as president, took over as coach at Joondalup and Amphlett was the team's most successful goalscorer with 13 goals over the course of the season.

In November 2009, Amphlett was signed by Western Australia's only professional football team, Perth Glory . Originally he was included in the team as a replacement for the injured Anthony Skorich . Just a few days later, Amphlett made his A-League debut in a 2-0 home loss to Sydney FC by substitution . In addition to short appearances in the A-League, Amphlett also played regularly for the youth team in the National Youth League and reached the championship final with the team in the 2009/10 season, in which they lost to Gold Coast United 1: 2. Amphlett completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter at the beginning of 2010 parallel to his football career.

In April 2010, the offensive player signed a new contract with Perth Glory. In the 2010/11 season Amphlett came mostly in the right midfield to 15 missions, including six in the starting line-up. At the end of the season, however, Perth occupied the penultimate place in the table despite the commitment of the former English national player Robbie Fowler . After he was only called up seven times in the following season and was not included during the entire championship finals (1: 2 final defeat against Brisbane Roar ), his contract was not renewed at the end of the season after a total of 27 first division appearances.

Amphlett then returned to his youth club ECU Joondalup, and has since returned to Western Australian football for the club. In 2014 and 2015 he was the club's top scorer.
