Tommy Bond

Thomas Ross Bond (born September 16, 1926 in Dallas , Texas , † September 24, 2005 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

He started his acting career at the age of five at Hal Roach Studios in Los Angeles after he was discovered by Agent Roach's screen tests for a magazine in Dallas. He first played the role of "Tommy" in the popular short film series Our Gang (in German: The Little Rascals ) in the early 1930s . After leaving and a few years as an actor in feature films, he returned to the Little Rascals at the end of the 1930s, where he now played the tyrannical thug Butch the Bully and Sidney Kibrick acted as his sidekick. He was also seen in other films as a naughty child, for example he had a heated argument with Laurel and Hardy in their film Die Klotzköpf (1938). In the 1940s, Bond played the young photographer Jimmy Olsen , Superman's self-proclaimed "best friend", in two parts of the Superman series of those years . In the role of Joey Pepper, Bond has appeared in numerous Five Little Peppers films.

From 1951 onwards, Tommy Bond, also known as Tommy "Butch" Bond due to his former role, worked exclusively as a director and producer on television. After another film role in The Love Machin in 1971 , Bond ended his acting career and retired in 1991. Bond was married to actress Polly Bond from 1953 until his death. The marriage resulted in a son, Thomas Ross Bond Jr. (* 1964). In 1994 he published an autobiography entitled "Darn Right Its Butch: Memories of Our Gang, the Little Rascals". Bond died of a heart attack on September 24, 2005 at the age of 79 . His grave is in the Riverside National Cemetery.
