Tommy Brunner (* 11. May 1970 in Innsbruck , † 21st April 2006 in Bella Coola , British Columbia , Canada ) was an Austrian Freeride - snowboarders . He was one of the most experienced European backcountry and big mountain riders.

He suffered serious injuries several times (including a broken back) and only barely survived an avalanche in Alaska in the late 90s (he was buried for 8 minutes). After this incident, he primarily devoted himself to snowboarding safety and organized some safety training camps for other boarders to avoid accidents.

On April 21, 2006, Tommy Brunner was killed in an avalanche in Canada during a film and photo shoot. The accident occurred in Bella Coola, British Columbia . In the late afternoon he was buried while driving. Although the signal from his avalanche transceiver (avalanche transceiver ) could be located quickly as part of the rescue measures initiated immediately , it was not possible to free him from the snow masses in time. It was buried about 5 m deep. After the time-consuming rescue under the most difficult conditions, he was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where, despite all efforts, only his death could be determined.
