history

Flow.game (Stoked Rider 1)

The first version appeared in 1999 and was part of the interactive marketing campaign produced by Bongfish for the snowboard manufacturer FLOW. This game was offered for free on FLOW.com and was also included with FLOW products on CD-ROM.

Stoked Rider 2.x

2001-2002 the second part appeared, for the first time under the title Stoked Rider . This title was again distributed as freeware and mainly served the developers (according to an interview) as a source of feedback regarding the acceptance of the game idea. The star of the game was again the small and cheeky alien that had to be steered on an infinite and procedurally generated mountain landscape.

Work has been going on since 2003 on the third part, a full-price title. The main features are a huge, freely navigable game landscape, a fully dynamically calculated gameplay (implemented by the physics engine PhysX from Ageia ) and an NPR (non-photorealistic rendering) rendering engine. As the title suggests, the main character ( Stoked Rider ft. Tommy Brunner ) is the Austrian freerider legend Tommy Brunner . Tommy also helped develop it.

Stoked Rider: Alaska Alien

In September 2006, Bongfish announced the fourth part. In Stoked Rider: Alaska Alien , the little green alien appears again to loosen up the game, and the game now gets a hyper-realistic look for the first time. It was released in December 2006.

Gameplay

One begins in Stoked Rider ft. Tommy Brunner in the person of Tommy Brunner as a poorly equipped snowboarder with a simple helicopter on a huge mountain massif in Alaska . While the weather conditions change dynamically, you can now drive predetermined races, take part in big air competitions, explore the mountain and collect new equipment or better helicopters with which you can then fly higher up the mountain. The developers want to pay particular attention to the online part. During the game you can simply set your own courses in the mountain, save them and load them onto a central server via the game interface (as well as your own high scores). Any other owner of the game can simply download the few bytes long courses and try to crack the high score .

technology

Stoked Rider ft. Tommy Brunner uses a specially developed technology that is able to compress the entire game content (graphics, music, ...) to a few megabytes . This is possible through the use of procedurally generated content, as is known from the demo scene . A well-known Hungarian demo group called Conspiracy is also involved in the graphic effects.

It is controlled with a new type of mouse control and keyboard support.
