Fips butcher
Fips Fleischer (born May 2, 1923 in Hohenfichte ; † June 25, 2002 in Chemnitz ; bourgeois Hanns-Joachim Fleischer ) was a German jazz musician and composer. He directed his big band, the Fips Fleischer Orchestra, played at numerous galas in East and West Germany and toured Europe, Asia and Africa. Fleischer composed the penguin Mambo.
Live and act
Between 1937 and 1941 he studied oboe , drums and piano at the music school in Zschopau . Then he worked as a drummer in various jazz combos , for example with Ernst van't Hoff . From 1947 to 1957 he was a drummer and composer with the dance orchestra of the Leipzig radio station , where he said he declined an offer to replace the band leader at the time, Kurt Henkels .
From 1957 he directed his own orchestra, which with musicians such as Hubert Katzenbeier and Werner Pfüller made numerous national and international appearances (up to the construction of the Berlin Wall ). In 1961 he wrote the film music for A Fistful of Notes by DEFA . First he played in Lou van Burg's first TV show ; then (from 1961) to 1971 he and his orchestra were permanently employed by the German television network (DFF) and later on in countless entertainment programs on GDR television. In 1962 the television film Hallo Fips was released . From 1970 to 1988 he was head of the dance and light music department at the Leipzig University of Music . From 1978 to 1995 he led his next big band; From 1996 onwards, he shared its direction with his first trumpeter Joachim Wessel.
Fleischer, who was friends with Louis Armstrong , accompanied artists such as Katja Ebstein , Caterina Valente , Jürgen Marcus , Rex Gildo . The circus gala People, Animals, Sensations in Berlin's Deutschlandhalle was shaped for many years by the sound of his band. From 1990 his appearances became less frequent.
Fips Fleischer died of heart failure at the age of 79 . His grave site is located in the cemetery of Augustusburg , mittelsachsen .
