Tony Woollard

Tony Woollard , born as Anthony Wollard (born September 3, 1932 in Bexleyheath near London, now the London Borough of Bexley ) is a British film architect .

life and work

Woollard had received his artistic training at London's Heatherley School of Fine Art before joining film in 1954. Under the guidance of Vincent Korda , he participated as a draftsman in large-scale productions such as Alluring Depth (The Deep Blue Sea, 1954) and Storm Over the Nile (Storm Over the Nile, 1955). Woollard later became a simple architect and supervised the completion of the buildings for the films The Pure Hell of St. Trinians (1960), Playing with Fate (Term of Trial, 1961) and Happiness in His Arms (Stolen Hours, 1962).

In 1964, director John Boorman brought him in as chief architect for his directorial debut Fangt uns, if you can . Up until the beginning of the 1970s, Woollard designed the sets for a number of quite different productions, after which he worked for advertising films for around a decade. It was not until the early 1980s that Tony Woollard returned to work as a production designer . In addition, the work for (US) television gained more and more importance. Among other things, Woollard designed the structures for three Charlton Heston films ( A Man for all Seasons, Treasure Island, Crucible for Blood ).
