Toomas Vilosius

Toomas Vilosius (born May 5, 1951 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian politician and doctor. He belongs to the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ).

Life and politics

Toomas Vilosius graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1969. He graduated from Tartu State University ( Tartu Riiklik Ülikool ) in 1977 with a degree in medicine . From 1978 he worked as a surgeon in Haapsalu . In January 1994 he moved to the Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs as State Secretary ( kantsler ) under Minister Marju Lauristin .

From September 1994 to November 1994, Vilosius was Minister of Social Affairs in Prime Minister Mart Laar's cabinet . He held the same office in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andres Tarand from November 1994 to April 1995 and in the cabinet of Prime Minister Tiit Vähi from November 1995 to December 1996. Subsequently, from 1999, Vilosius was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) and, among other things, chairman of the Social Committee.

After leaving parliament in 2004, Vilosius became chairman of the supervisory board of the Estonian Genome Project ( Eesti Geenivaramu ). In 2006 Vilosius became head of the public relations department of the Tallink / Silja Line shipping company .

Private life

Toomas Vilosius is married to the doctor Sirje Vilosius. The couple have a daughter and a son.
