Top Chess Engine Championship
The Top Chess Engine Championship (TCEC) is a competition in computer chess . The abbreviation TCEC started in 2010 after the initial organizer Martin Thoresen for Thoresen Computer Engines Competition . Meanwhile, the TCEC is seen by many as the unofficial world championship in computer chess. In contrast to the World Computer Chess Championship , free chess programs also take part in the TCEC , for example the most successful participant in the TCEC to date, the Stockfish chess program .
procedure
The TCEC is divided into seasons that extend over several months. In every season chess programs compete against each other in different leagues. New participants enter the lowest league. Promoted and relegated players for the next season are determined from the results in the various leagues.
In the top division, two finalists are determined who then compete against each other in a super final. In the 8th season the super final consisted of 100 games with 180 minutes each time plus 30 seconds for each move. The number of games in the super finals was left at 100 in the other seasons, while the cooling-off time was reduced.
Results of the super final
The most successful participant so far (as of TCEC Season 18) is Stockfish with 8 titles. In the 15th season, Leela Chess Zero was the first program to win, which uses an artificial neural network .
