Top of the Pops

Top of the Pops was an international music show for teenagers. The concept comes from the BBC in Great Britain . Most current pop and rock charts were presented ( mainstream ). On June 20, 2006, the BBC announced that the show would be canceled after more than 42 years due to falling audience numbers in the UK. The last weekly program aired on the BBC on July 30, 2006, but it is still produced as an annual Christmas special.

The program was broadcast on the BBC from 1964 to 2006. The show was last moderated by Fearne Cotton .

In 2010 the old episodes of the British original were broadcast again on the BBC Four channel and in Germany on the einsfestival channel.

Germany

In Germany, the program was first broadcast as a special on RTL on April 13, 1998. Since September 19, 1998, the show has been on Saturdays at 5:45 p.m. At times there were prominent co-moderators who changed every week. On April 8, 2006, after eight years, RTL broadcast the 355th and final episode of the German edition of Top of the Pops .

The magazine of the same name, the Top of the Pops magazine, was also offered (photos and posters, interviews with the stars, background information and lyrics), which was able to maintain its position on the market for some time despite the discontinuation of the TV format. The youth magazine was published monthly by Egmont Cultfish Media Verlag from 2000 under editors-in-chief Sandra Stolper (2000–2002), Jasmin Kreulitsch (2002–2006) and Mateja Strasek (2006–2010). The last edition appeared on September 6, 2010 after a drastic decrease in circulation.
