Georg Jakob Kofler (born April 26, 1957 in Bruneck , South Tyrol , Italy ) is a manager and entrepreneur who became known primarily through his involvement in various media groups.

Life

Georg Kofler was born on April 26, 1957, the son of a woodcutter. His father died shortly after he joined Mannesmann in Munich as a first generation guest worker . At the age of four, Kofler became a half-orphan. As a factory worker, the mother Kreszenz Kofler ("Zenzi"), née. Gatterer, the family.

Kofler later received a scholarship at the Vinzentinum boys' seminar in Brixen. In addition to his high school diploma , he improved his pocket money as a chief dishwasher in the hotel trade, as a ski instructor and as an oven worker in the aluminum works in Töging am Inn .

When he went public in early 2005, he was able to sell a large part of his shares. He sold the rest of the shares on the stock exchange in July and August 2007. On August 13, 2007 it was announced that Kofler is leaving the company on August 31, 2007.

The manager founded an investment group for industrial companies (Georg Kofler Group), with which he took over Leifeld Metal Spinning GmbH in October 2007 .

On May 26, 2008, Kofler announced the start of the company he founded, Kofler Energies AG. Before that, he took over the small Frankfurt company NyConTec and recruited Konrad Jerusalem, head of the takeovers and mergers department , from the energy supply company RWE . In May 2009 the former Rhein-Ruhr Energie AG (today Kofler Energies Power) was taken over by a majority. In a guest lecture at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, he reports on his entrepreneurial path.

In 2014, Kofler and Judith Williams jointly founded the Glow Media Group, in which Williams 'investments from the TV founders show The Lions' Den, broadcast by VOX , are managed. In the spring of 2017 he jumped twice for Judith Williams as a juror on "The Lions' Den".

Since 2015 he has regularly made large donations to the FDP and the CDU.

With the Social Chain Group GmbH, behind which Michael Börnicke (former CEO of Premiere AG) and Holger Hansen, the younger brother of his wife Christiane, stand alongside Kofler, he continues to participate as an investor. The Social Chain Group (SCG) was founded in December 2017 from the companies Glow Media Group, Media Chain and Social Chain.

Voluntary work

Georg Kofler is a member of the jury for "Top 100", with which the Compamedia agency honors medium-sized German companies. With expert knowledge from practice, he helps decide which company will be "Innovator of the Year".

Private

The former 9live managing director and founder Christiane zu Salm has been his partner since 2001 . In 2004 their daughter was born. Georg Kofler has two sons from his first marriage. In July 2010 Christiane zu Salm and Georg Kofler married for the second time; Christiane zu Salm took her husband's family name. In September 2018 Georg Kofler announced the couple's separation.
