Top of the World in the background

Top of the World is the highest transportable observation tower ever built and at the same time, with a total height of 95 m, it is also the highest transportable amusement ride ever built .

Top of the World is a so-called Gyro-Tower , i. H. the passenger cabin rotates around the tower as it moves up and down. The maximum driving height of the cabin is 72 m with a capacity of 132 people. The tower was built by the Dutch company Nauta-Bussink for the Bremen showman Finnendahl.

When it premiered at the Christmas market in Berlin-Friedrichshain in 1995 , an incident occurred due to the effects of the cold. The tower's drive blocked due to the cold and the safety brakes blocked the passenger carrier from moving up and down automatically. With the help of a manual release and release device, the passenger carrier was then lowered “by hand”. The suspension rope slipped through and the gondola sagged a few centimeters and hit the podium. Some passengers were injured in this impact.

It was later sold to the Freizeit-Land Geiselwind , where the ride is still in operation. On September 3, 2019 at around 4:30 p.m., there was an incident in which the viewing platform got stuck at a height of around 60 m because the ride had switched to malfunction mode for an unexplained cause. 21 people, including 11 children, were roped down with the participation of the armed forces, air ambulance and police. One child was slightly injured.
