The Freizeit-Land Geiselwind is an amusement park near the Bavarian Geiselwind on the A3 between Nuremberg and Würzburg . The largest amusement park in Bavaria, with an area of around 400,000 m², features around 100 attractions, including five roller coasters , five shows and an outdoor animal enclosure.

history

On June 29, 1969, the businessman Ernst Mensinger, who had been breeding exotic species of birds for years, opened a bird-pony fairy tale park in Geiselwind . In this park, the animals were allowed to roam freely without bars, so that the visitor was given a safari experience. In the 1970s the park was expanded and in the early 1980s the first show in the park was opened with a big top . The first rides were also opened in the 1980s; In 1989, with the opening of four rides and other live shows, the development from a zoo and bird park to an amusement park was completed.

On June 11, 1999, Ernst Mensinger received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his life's work.

In December 2016 it became known that the Freizeit-Land Geiselwind was sold to the 32-year-old showman Matthias Mölter from Coburg , who has been the new owner of the park since January 1, 2017. For 2017 he announced ten new rides and a total of 17 events. The number of visitors in the 2016 season was 168,000 visitors per year. One year after the takeover, almost 220,000 visitors came to the park in Geiselwind in the 2017 season. In 2019 the park was visited by around 250,000 people. Since the 2017 season, the Freizeit-Land Geiselwind has been celebrating Bavaria's largest Halloween event. All attractions are open until the park closes, you get additional horror attractions and running courses free of charge, as well as extra shows such as B. Fire show, scary show and fireworks .

In 2019 the park celebrated its 50th anniversary with many new products, shows and a completely new themed area. With the theme "Dragon Bay", the park was enlarged for the first time in over 10 years. Parking is no longer free since the start of the 2019 season. As of 2019, a parking fee of 5.00 euros per day and per vehicle must be paid, which is to be paid at the box office and currently has to be handed in at the exit or later inserted into the reader of the barrier at the exit .

From the 2020 season, the park will be expanded by 22 new features and changes, including a large ship swing, a large new themed area for families and children and a large new indoor playground. In the new “Tuki's crazy farm” themed area, there is space for three new attractions and a 200-meter-long themed ride, but there is also space for a new restaurant, a new candy store, a large playground and large jumping pillows.
