Condor (also Ikarus ) is the name of an amusement ride that has been developed and built since 1984 by HUSS Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG, both in a stationary and in a transportable version, and now in a newer version by the Bremen company Huss Park Attractions stationary park design is distributed.
construction
A slewing ring that can be raised and lowered is attached to a 34 meter high tower and can also be rotated. On this turntable there are 4 booms, at the ends of which a gyro body is attached, which rotates in the opposite direction to the direction of travel. Stable frame constructions are mounted on these rotors, which are used to suspend the seven swiveling passenger cabins. A total of 56 people can be accommodated in 28 passenger cabins. The first Condor system went into operation in 1984 under the name "Cyclo Tower" at the "Louisiana World Exposition" in New Orleans. In the same year, the first copy for the German market was delivered to the Stuttgart showman Juliane Schmidt.
Driving style
The large turntable on the mast and the rotor bodies at the end of the steel arms can rotate in one direction at different speeds, which can be individually adjusted. During the journey, the entire structure, which rotates around the mast, is pulled up to a height of over 30 meters. On the trip up or down and the period of time where you are at over 30 meters, the booms and the rotor bodies rotate at changing speeds, which leads to a swinging out of the passenger cabins and a varied driving sequence.
Condor 2G / 2GH
In April 2013, the company Huss Park Attractions announced a newer version of the well-known Condor ride, the "Condor 2-G" (2nd generation) . Compared to the original Condor from the first generation, the new Condor has a completely renewed and improved design and is available in two versions: As "Condor 2G" with 28 classic gondolas, in which 2 people can ride, and as "Condor 2GH" “(2nd generation hybrid) , half of which consists of 14 classic gondolas and 28 suspended gondolas, so that both new Condor variants can take up to 56 people per trip. In addition, the new Condor uses light-emitting diodes for the lighting instead of the conventional cap bulbs and the new Condor is equipped with additional seat belts. The first "Condor 2GH" was opened in May 2016 under the name "Fatamorgana" in the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen in Denmark .
