The Holiday Park is an amusement park in Haßloch ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) that has existed since 1971 and was taken over by the Belgian theme park group Plopsa in November 2010 .

General

"Anubis Free Fall Tower" (from inside)

In the park was the first drop tower ( " Free Fall Tower ") and the first Rapid River Ride ( "Thunder River") is Germany built. The park's best-known attraction since 2001 has been the “ Expedition GeForceroller coaster , especially due to the national media coverage .

With the sale of the amusement park to the Belgian group of companies Studio 100 , the Holiday Park was transformed into a theme park with individual, related subject areas. Under the title “Majaland”, a new park area with eleven attractions was built by summer 2012 on the site of the original entrance and exit. In the course of this, a new entrance and exit area was built on the former site of the “Dancing Pavilion” and the “Ballon Race”. The renovation of the parking lot was completed in 2016.

The original park mascot was the parrot Holly. With the purchase of the Holiday Park from Studio 100 , the mascots Maya the bee , Wickie , Heidi, Mia and Tabaluga and their friends were introduced.

history

The original " Haßloch Fairy Tale Park" was bought by the Schneider family in 1970 and opened in 1971 under their leadership. The Schneider family had owned a midget circus for several generations. With the purchase of the park in Haßloch, it got a permanent place in the form of a "Lilliputian village". The area known as "Liliputstadt" existed until 1996 and consisted of visible caravans, clad in the shape of houses, which were inhabited by small people. Otherwise, the “ Wild Mouse ” attraction and a dolphin show in a dolphinarium were offered in the first season . However, elements from the fairytale park before 1971 remained at first. In the following years, the park was supplemented with further shows and attractions. In 1973 the park was given its current name Holiday Park. Initially, the park had an area of 70,000 m², which until today (2015) has grown to over 400,000 m². In the years 2002 and 2003, the coaster marathon of the American university professor Richard Rodriguez took place on the " Expedition GeForce " . Later a monument was erected next to the railway for the “King of Rollercoaster”.

On November 3, 2010, the Belgian Studio 100 announced the purchase of the Holiday Park. Over the next four years, 25 million euros were to be invested, using the licenses for Wickie , Pippi Longstocking , Maya the Bee , Tabaluga and Heidi , which the company had acquired in 2008. Since then, Holiday Park has been operated as part of the amusement park group Plopsa , a subsidiary of Studio 100.

In the 2011 season, the offer for children was expanded to include "Holly's Driving School" and the "Dancing Fountains". With the construction of the “Majaland”, eleven additional children's attractions were added, which should also make the park attractive for families with smaller children.

Super vortex

The “ Superwirbelroller coaster existed from 1979 to 2013. It was the oldest stationary roller coaster in Germany. The “ Sky Scream ” roller coaster was opened on April 12, 2014 at the former location of the super vortex .

On August 15, 2014, there was a fatal accident at Holiday Park in which an eleven-year-old girl died. The accident occurred on a breakdance type ride , which was called "Spinning Barrels" and was then no longer in operation. The plant has already been sold and will be dismantled after the court hearings have ended. In June 2016, the 22-year-old operator of the amusement park was fined for negligent homicide for neglecting his duty of care. His two superiors, a department head and a foreman, were acquitted. The judgment against the operator is final; in March 2017 an appeal process began against the department head and the foreman. On July 27, 2017, the Frankenthal Regional Court confirmed the acquittal of the two defendants and dismissed the appeal of the public prosecutor and the joint plaintiff.

The days with the most visitors are the four “Halloween Fright Nights”. With 21,300 visitors on October 31, 2017, a new record was set since the takeover by Plopsa.
