The super vortex in Holiday Park ( Haßloch ) was a steel roller coaster of the model Corkscrew with Bayerncurve from the manufacturer Vekoma . In 1979 it was the first roller coaster with inversions in Germany.

history

The model was originally intended for mobile use at fairgrounds, but required too much time for assembly and dismantling. A similar track was set up once at the Düren Annakirmes in the same year . The super vortex was installed at Holiday Park in 1979 without ever traveling. After the super vortex was dismantled, four roller coasters of this model still exist worldwide.

The no longer modern track, the brakes still had to be released manually, for example, no longer received the desired audience response after Plopsa took over the park and should therefore make room for a new roller coaster. On October 31, 2013, the super vortex completed its last ride in Holiday Park and was then dismantled. Up until then, the super vortex was the oldest overhead roller coaster in Germany. Part of the two corkscrews was left as a reminder of this part of German rollercoaster history.

The Sky Scream catapult rollercoaster opened on the site on April 12, 2014 .

Trains

Two trains with six cars each from Arrow Dynamics were originally used on Superwirbel . For the 2003 season they were replaced by newer models from Vekoma. From the 2012 season, however, only one train was in service. Each car had space for four people (two rows of two people). The shoulder straps could not be operated from the control panel of the train. On each car of the train there was a pedal that the operator had to operate in order to lock or open the four brackets of the respective car.

background

The super vortex was part of the world records of the American Richard Rodriguez in continuous roller coaster driving several times . In 1982 Richard Rodriguez drove a total of 328 hours (day and night) on the super vortex.

In 2003, he set another world record in continuous roller coaster riding: for 49 days and nights he rode on the GeForce expedition during the day and on the super vortex at night.
