Hans Zens

Hans Zens (born September 20, 1925 in Kreuzau ; † June 27, 2010 ibid) was an honorary citizen and former mayor of Kreuzau as well as the “fair director” of the Annakirmes in Düren .

After completing his school career, Zens was trained as a surveying technician from 1940 to 1943 at the city administration of Düren . After the Second World War he attended the construction and arts and crafts school in Mainz . Until March 31, 1984, Hans Zens was employed at the land surveying office of the city of Düren, of which he had been head since 1972. During his activity he was market master of the city of Düren and was therefore responsible for the design of the Annakirmes for many years , the attractiveness of which he steadily increased and made known far beyond North Rhine-Westphalia.

Zens was a member of the council of the Kreuzau community from 1961 and also a member of the local council from 1966. In 1966 he became mayor . From 1969 to 1999 he was mayor of the Kreuzau community and mayor of his home town. Due to his voluntary work, Zens received the parish ring of honor in 1991 and was made an honorary citizen in 1999 .

He was the source of ideas and co-initiator for the world championship in cherry pit spitting in 1974.
