The Torfbahn Shatura ( Russian Узкоколейная железная дорога ОАО "Шатурторф" , transkr. Uskokoleinaja schelesnaja doroga OAO "Schaturtorf" , transl. Uzkokolejnaâ železnaâ doroga OAO "Šaturtorf" ) is a 70-kilometer (2007) long narrow gauge railway in Shatura in the Moscow Oblast . Until 1995, the narrow-gauge railway belonged to the Shatura Transport Authority (Шатурскому транспортному управлению).

history

The first section of the narrow-gauge railway was opened in 1918.

The locomotive depots are located at the Kerwa and Bakschejewo train stations.

Regular freight and passenger traffic was carried out on the narrow-gauge railway. The main cargo was peat for the Shatura peat power plant. Due to the cessation of peat burning in the power plant, the route has not been used since 2008, and has been dismantled since 2009.
