Gatehouse on Frauenplan in Weimar

The Torhaus am Frauenplan is a building erected in 1822 in Weimar on the corner of Frauenplan and Ackerwand. It was built by Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray and served as the southern entrance to the city for taking tolls . An older building, the former Frauentor, was demolished for this.

Goethe made part of his garden available for this. At Goethe's request, the building has no windows at the back facing the garden. Most of the building is plastered. The base area is exposed and consists of sandstone . On the three-part window on the upper floor, actually a roof riser , there is a cornice . Stylistically, the building can be assigned to classicism .

Between 1822 and 1824, Coudray also built the gatehouse on Erfurter Straße .

The entire area of Wielandplatz as well as the Frauenplan are under monument protection .
