The Torhorstschule in Oranienburg is a public school in the state of Brandenburg in the sponsorship of the Oberhavel district. The Torhorstschule ( comprehensive school with upper secondary school ), called “Torhorst” for short, has existed since 1982. At the school, which is idyllically located on a branch of the Havel, 728 students and 62 teachers are currently studying and working. The school principal is currently Manuela Brüssow, her deputy Regine Lesniak.

With many activities, the school does justice to the broad spectrum of interests of its many students in grades 7–13 and encourages initiative and creativity. Together with the pupils, an encounter platform was designed and built on the school premises, which is used for musical and artistic promotion in and outside of the classroom. In 2004, the project was awarded the “Golden Floh”, the sponsorship award for practical learning, from the State of Brandenburg. There are school partnerships with schools in Bagnolet (France) and Melnik (Czech Republic). In 2011, the Torhorst School was the 46th school in the state of Brandenburg to be awarded the title "School WITHOUT Racism - School WITH Courage".

history

The school building was handed over to the students and teachers in 1982 after two years of construction and inaugurated as a polytechnic high school (grades 1–10). It was named after the siblings Marie and Adelheid Torhorst . After the restructuring, it got the status of a comprehensive school in 1991. In 1994 she was given the right to set up an upper school level and in 1997 the first year graduated from high school . In recent years the building has been renovated inside and out. The school has modern specialist cabinets with appropriate preparation rooms, three IT rooms, a modern school kitchen, a cafeteria, an auditorium, a sports hall and a sports field. Music rooms with a variety of instruments are available for music lessons.

For 13 years, following the traditional project week, the cultural workshop took place under the direction of Mr. Faatz and Mrs. Heyn as the cultural highlight of the school year with a large audience. The last workshop had the working title "Everything at the beginning". This paved the way for new projects.

In the school year 12/13, all students celebrated their 30th school anniversary together with the teaching staff, parents and many alumni. On the occasion of this event, a project choir was set up, which consisted of over 130 students. Numerous other projects enriched the festival. On the occasion of the project week and the 2013 summer festival there was a "Romeo and Juliet" production performed by the 9th and 10th grades.
