Tork is a commercial brand of Essity , a European manufacturer of paper and hygiene products. Tork's main products include toilet paper, wiping and cleaning cloths and napkins. Essity is a global hygiene and paper company. The products are sold in around 100 countries. In addition to Tork, the well-known Essity brands also include Tempo , Zewa and TENA.

history

The history of the Tork brand in Germany goes back to the Kostheim cellulose factory , which was founded in 1885. In 1936, the Waldhof pulp factory took over the majority of the shares. In 1955, Apura GmbH was founded as a subsidiary, specializing in the manufacture and sale of disposable towels. At that time, the basis of production was already the raw material recovered paper .

In 1969, pulp production was stopped and the entire cellulose factory switched to the manufacture of tissue paper. From 1970, the subsidiary Apura GmbH took over the production and sale of hygiene papers and merged with the Aschaffenburg pulp factory to form PWA - Papierwerke Waldhof Aschaffenburg AG. In 1995 the Swedish Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) , which had previously only produced pulp and wood, became the majority shareholder of PWA . The hygiene area was reorganized in 1997: Apura GmbH became SCA Hygiene Paper GmbH and from now on produces hygiene papers for bulk consumers under the Tork brand. In 2017, the owner SCA spun off the paper business and with it the Tork brand as Essity.

Surname

The name Tork comes from the Swedish verb "torka", which means something like "dry off / wipe off". The first products to be sold under the Tork brand were industrial wipes and paper towels on rolls.

Product segments

Tork products are not found in retail stores, but in the so-called away-from-home area (bulk consumer area). Tork products are mainly used in restaurants, industry, healthcare and public facilities. The Tork product range is divided into four main areas: washroom hygiene, wiping and cleaning systems, napkins and patient hygiene.

Product awards

Tork products have received various awards and prizes: Many of the paper and soap products have been awarded environmental labels such as the EU Ecolabel, the Blue Angel or the Nordic Swan.

The dispenser systems have received several awards for their design and / or their function, including the iF product design award and the Red dot design award .

social commitment

In the social area, Tork is committed through its cooperation with the McDonald's Children's Aid Foundation . For the Ronald McDonald houses, in which families of seriously ill children find a temporary home, Tork provides products such as toilet paper, serviettes, paper towels and kitchen paper free of charge. In addition, Tork hygiene experts explain how to wash your hands correctly on site.

Tork also cooperates with educational institutions to teach children about proper hand hygiene right from the start and thus to make a contribution to preventive health care. In the school competition "Show us your hands", schools or individual school classes from Germany, Austria and Switzerland can apply with a hand hygiene project day and a creative work and win equipment for their school with Tork dispensers and products.

As part of the German Sustainability Action Day, Tork and the German Child Protection Association launched a project at a primary school in Berlin-Wedding in June 2012. Among other things, one of the school toilets was completely renovated here.

marketing

Because Tork's products are mainly intended for the bulk consumer sector, the advertising measures can be found primarily in specialist magazines or on websites for the relevant target groups.
