Essity is a listed manufacturer of hygiene paper that emerged from the SCA . The head office is in Stockholm .

history

In April 2017, at the annual general meeting of SCA, the shareholders decided to split the company. Here, SCA spun off its largest business area with hygiene products as Essity . According to the company's own information, the company name is composed of the two words "Essentials" and "Necessities".

The IPO took place on June 15, 2017.

Locations

In Germany there are plants in Mannheim , Mainz-Kostheim , Neuss and Witzenhausen . The German company has its headquarters in Ismaning . With 2,000 employees, the Mannheim plant is the largest location of the Essity Group in Europe - see also Essity Germany .

At the Mannheim site, around 40 million euros were invested in a new process for producing sustainable pulp from straw from 2019. The alternative pulp will be used in production to improve the ecological balance of the products. The straw is bought from local farms. The stalks left over after the grain has been harvested is used. So far there have only been two reliably available fibers in the manufacture of tissue paper, either certified virgin wood fibers or recycled fibers.

In Austria, a site in Pernitz is operated with 540 employees at last. By 2020 this number is expected to drop to 465. The reason for this is the relocation of napkin production to Italy. The plant in Pernitz was founded in 1866 and belonged to the SCA Group from 1995 before it was split up in 2017.

Brands

The best-known brands in the German-speaking area include Tempo , Tork and Zewa.

Until 2007 the handkerchief brand "Softis" was one of the company's own brands. Due to the takeover of “Tempo” in 2007, however, it had to be sold for antitrust reasons (and went to the Italian company Sofidel - whose handkerchief brand is “Regina”). SCA (and thus legal successor Essity) retained a license for the distribution of "Softis" in countries outside of Germany and Austria. "Softis" were introduced in 1977 by the Waldhof-Aschaffenburg paper mills . These were taken over by the SCA group in 1996.

In the medical device sector, Essity is represented by BSN medical and Tena ( urinary incontinence ), among others .
