Company history
BSN medical was founded in April 2001 by Beiersdorf and Smith & Nephew as a 50/50 joint venture . Since a management buy-out in January 2006 by Montagu Private Equity, BSN medical has been independent of a group. On June 11, 2012 the European private equity fund EQT acquired the company. At the end of 2016, EQT sold BSN medical to Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) and transferred it to the spin-off Essity in mid-2017 .
BSN medical, based in Hamburg, is represented in more than 30 countries and has production sites in Germany, France , Mexico , Brazil , Pakistan , South Africa , Venezuela and Colombia . As of 2020, the company had more than 5500 employees worldwide.
Products
BSN medical specializes in plaster casts, bandages and bandages for orthopedics, products for the treatment of venous diseases in phlebology as well as adhesive fixations, compresses and fixation bandages for medical wound care, and urology products . Well-known products of the company are the adhesive tapes Leukoplast / Leukosilk and the Fixomull / Hypafix bandage fixation .
